A Blessing for New Beginnings

A Blessing for New Beginnings

Every new beginning needs a blessing.

It's that time of year - a time for new beginnings, for fresh starts, for big dreams. In our life, it's a whole new adventure.  In December of 2017, Don and I moved from Charleston, SC to Wolfville, Nova Scotia. And so far, it IS turning out to be quite an adventure. Many of you have written with questions or asked to hear more about our experience, so I decided to create a blog/travel journal to share with everyone. I'll be writing about our adventure and our daily life in Nova Scotia and sharing more photos and video clips. If you would like to follow along, you can join the email list and you'll get an email when I post a new blog. Or you can add ordinarywandering.com to your RSS feed.

Every new beginning needs a blessing.

For the New Year, I'm sharing a poem of blessing for new beginnings by John O'Donohue. It's from a wonderful little book entitled To Bless the Space Between Us that was gifted to us by our friend Nancy McWhorter. That is my hope for this blog - that it will bless the space and distance between us and deepen our community of friends all over this planet.

So, blessings on all our new beginnings, both big and small, far and near!

Wishing everyone the happiest of New Years!

For a New Beginning

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure,
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.
